“WIC” stands for Women, Infants and Children. It is a supplemental nutrition program for:
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding women (up to the infant’s 1st birthday)
- Non-breastfeeding postpartum women up to 6 months after birth
- Infants
- Children up to their 5th birthday
WIC helps families by providing nutritious foods such as milk, eggs, cereal, juice, fruits, vegetables and infant formula at no cost for families with pregnant women or young children. They also receive nutrition advice from registered dietitians and nurses, breastfeeding support and information, and referrals for health care. If you have Medicaid, SNAP/food stamps, FADDS or FIP, you most likely will quality for WIC services.
