Applications for the 2017-2018 “Embrace Iowa” campaign are now available. The maximum dollar award is $500 and can be used to cover a variety of needs, including car repairs, medical expenses, rent, utilities, home repairs, clothing, household items and furniture. Embrace Iowa funds are not intended to be used for Christmas gifts or food or for purchasing motor vehicles.
The 2017 HHS poverty guidelines will be used for this application period. Applications will be considered for households at or below 200% of the 2017 poverty guidelines. For Ringgold County residents, the applications may be picked up at the Neighborhood Center or through the MATURA office in Creston. The application is also available by clicking here. Only one application can be filled out per family. First time applicants will be given priority by the review committee. Application deadline is January 26, 1018.
Documentation of need must be included with the application, including a cost estimate for the benefit item. Checks will be issued to a vendor for the service or goods on behalf of the approved applicant. Checks must be used within 90 days and cannot be redeemed for cash.
Applicants will be asked to consider writing a note of thanks to the Des Moines Register, who sponsors this funding. It is important for the Des Moines Register and their contributors to know how much this project is appreciated so they will continue doing it each year. Applicants will also be asked if they would be willing to share their story with the Des Moines Register to promote the Embrace Iowa project. An applicant’s response to this question will not be used to determine whether or not a benefit is awarded.
