Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) causes mild, cold-like symptoms for most persons, but infants and older persons are at risk for severe complications, including death. This year, those groups at risk are eligible for treatment to prevent this virus for the upcoming season when RSV typically circulates from late fall to early spring.
Ringgold County Public Health will be offering a waiting list for infants eligible for the Vaccines for Children Program. Those 1-week-old to under age 8 months whose parent/guardian are interested in protecting them from RSV can qualify. Infants must have Medicaid or no health insurance. The vaccine is expected to arrive during the month of October. Call 641-464-0691 with questions. Infants with private insurance can receive from their medical care provider.
For those over age 60, RSV vaccine will be offered at Hy-Vee Pharmacy and Mount Ayr Medical Clinic. RSV vaccine can be given at the same time as other vaccinations, if desired.
