Reaching. Stretching. Bending. Does that sound like your exercise class, or could it be you in the garden? Gardening can be just as beneficial in building endurance, balance, flexibility and strength as an exercise class. In fact, calories used from one hour of active gardening are roughly the same as calories from one hour of walking your dog.
Be sure to start slowly and limber up before hitting the dirt to avoid sore backs, pulled muscles and other injuries. Just like walking, you can divide your time in the garden into small bits and still benefit from the exercise.
