Loving Your Family is designed to help you save money, shop smart, avoid waste, help picky eaters try new foods, and make easy low-cost meals.
Why is nutrition so important? Adequate physical activity and nutrition are essential for optimal physical, social and cognitive development. Young children establish life-long eating and exercise habits that influence the prevalence of chronic diseases and obesity.
What can you expect? After completing the Loving Your Family lessons, you should be able to:
1) Eat fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products every day.
2) Be physically active every day as part of a healthy lifestyle
3) Balance calorie intake with calories expended.
What is expected of you? Your responsibility with this program is to follow through on the goals you set for yourself and make healthy changes in your life that reflect what you have learned through LYF.
The first session is scheduled for January 28 at 5:00 PM at the Extension Office. Watch for more information in the Record News and Diagonal Progress. Parents as Teachers is working with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to provide this program. LYF is funded by Food Assistance Nutrition Education.
